Out of the tour boat and walking now, along the Reguliersgracht
Many of Amsterdam’s buildings look as if they are sinking — but there are no visible cracks in the structures. They appear to be melting. I don’t know if they level the insides in order to make the floors straight. I hope so.
The tilt forward on this building’s facade has been purposely done. The Dutch designed it this way in order to prevent loads, which are hoisted to higher floors via a roof pulley, from hitting the building’s front.
